Radical Islam’s Useful Idiots — UPDATED
I talked in an earlier post about the Oldstream Media’s love affair with Obama and how it was degrading everything and everyone in our country. But O is not their only love. They also have feelings for terrorists and swallow their sob stories whole, without the necessary fact-checking and the assumption of skepticism that previous generations believed was part of the reporter’s job.
As a result, the Oldstream Media aids and abets terrorists worldwide. Here are just a few examples:
- In 2000, it was reported that a 12-year-old boy was shot by Israeli forces in a firefight with a Palestinian mob in Gaza. The UK’s Guardian published this series of photos, allegedly documenting the shooting. Notice the bullet holes in the wall behind the man and boy — they are unchanged in the entire series of photos. The caption at the bottom says 15 bullet holes were found in the wall behind the pair — as though the holes were all new that day. Also notice that in the “dead” photo, there is no blood to be seen and the boy’s hands are covering his face — if he had just been shot as alleged, he could not be so composed — and where are the new bullet holes one would expect in such a situation? In 2003, James Fallows did an article for The Atlantic debunking the report, but do you suppose the Oldstream Media publicized that?
- In 2002, Palestinians fought Israeli forces in Jenin, then alleged a massacre. Another hoax — there were around 50-some Palestinian fighters and 23 Israelis killed — the civilians had intelligently evacuated the area.
- In 2005, the Oldstream Media believed complaints by battlefield combatants held at Guantanamo about Koran-flushing at Guantanamo. Turns out it was the terrorists, not the guards, doing the flushing of the oh-so-holy-book — they wanted to flood their own living quarters, I guess so they could complain of unsanitary living conditions. This would be in keeping with their training manual, which instructs: “At the beginning of the trial … the brothers must insist on proving that torture was inflicted on them by state security before the judge. Complain of mistreatment while in prison.”
- In 2007, Scott Beauchamp lied in several pieces printed in The New Republic, describing various types of improper behavior by U.S. troops in Iraq. Until investigated by The Weekly Standard, his fabrications were swallowed whole by the Oldstream Media. In an irony almost too precious to bear, it turns out Beauchamp was married to a so-called fact-checker who worked for TNR, a fact revealed in the most skeptical piece in all the Oldstream Media. When he at last recanted, the cricket symphony was all one could hear.
Imagine the glee of the terrorists when these falsehoods are spread world-wide. It’s just more fodder for their recruiting and indoctrination machine. Retractions are rarely publicized, so they don’t matter.
In addition to these lapses in fact-checking and healthy skepticism, the Oldstream Media has a more insidious, endemic attitude problem. Most of the Oldstream Media practictioners assume an anti-American and anti-Western-culture stance. Here’s one example:
Harry Smith is rightly sad that so many Indian residents of Mumbai were killed, but implies that the terrorist hunt for British and Americans wasn’t quite so sad. Listen at 1:25 on this video:
And to draw it all together, let’s add to the mix the Oldstream Media notion that “if only the terrorists understood us better, they wouldn’t be so mad at us” and “once Obama is elected, the terrorists will see that we mean them no harm.”
Listen to doofy Alex Witt’s disappointment that the terrorists are still at it (speaking of the Mumbai atrocities), now that Obama’s been elected, after all, gosh darn it. You can watch it here. And I quote for you the salient part:
“you certainly can’t expect things to change on a dime overnight….There had been such a global outpouring of affection, respect, hope, with the new [Obama] administration coming in, that precisely these kinds of attacks, it was thought — at least hoped — would be dampered down. But in this case it looks like Barack Obama is getting a preview of things to come.”
What kind of idiot believes that the terrorists care who’s livin’ in the White House? Well, that would be radical Islam’s useful idiots.
UPDATE: I received a comment from someone claiming to be Scott Beauchamp, saying he never recanted what he wrote for The New Republic. I don’t know whether it really is Beauchamp or just a troll, but it did cause me to go back over it again. Turns out the issue was never completely resolved. Some sources say he signed a recantation under oath, others say no he didn’t but the Army investigation proved him false. But you don’t have to just believe me — here’s a pretty complete summary, or you can go to Wikipedia or SourceWatch yourself. OK, so now you know.
