Liar, liar, pants on fire

September 21, 2008

Obama’s campaign recently put out an ad attacking McCain as lying despicably about Obama’s vote against the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.  That’s a law that was passed at the Federal level in 2002.  It also was passed in Illinois, but not until Obama left for Washington.  Obama voted against it at every opportunity he had.  Here’s O’s ad:

Digression:  this ad says McCain is “running on a platform to ban abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.”  I haven’t heard this.  Anyone want to point me to factual info on this charge?  End digression.

Here’s what you can learn from CNN, no friend to any non-Modern Liberal.  Notice that the reporter Carol Costello omits an essential fact:  the second IL bill that Obama voted against was identical to the Federal bill.  This completely eliminates the objection O claims as his justification for his NO vote.  Gosh, Carol, ya coulda dug that fact up if you’d just tried a little harder.  Bill Bennett gives you that fact in the second half of the video.  Also note that James Carville’s main objection to the piece is that Rick Santorum described Obama as “harsh.”  Wow, that’s persuasive.

O’s campaign, whoever that might be, even acknowledged back in August that O had voted against a bill identical to the Federal bill.

Jill Stanek herself has a point-by-point rebuttal at Illinois Review of all the excuses and obfuscations O has made about his history with this bill.  Kind of sickening.  Jill also has a timeline of events related to this bill here.

In addition, here’s an analysis by FactCheck.Org.  Let’s please ignore the name-calling and pay attention to the facts — what and when did O vote against — it’s there.  FactCheck.Org is a nonpartisan political “consumer advocate” organization.

Who’s really the liar ?
